Qatar Petrochemical Co. (QAPCO) is to participate in EXPOPLAS Exhibition for Plastics, which will be held at the Exhibitions center in Melbourne- Australia from 26-29 Sep. 2005. EXPOPLAS 2005 is expected to attract more than 150 exhibitors representing about 450 companies from Australia and overseas.
EXPOPLAS is the largest trade exhibition in Australia for the rubber and plastics processing and industries, which is held regularly in Australia every three years since 1987. Occupying 15,000 Sqm of exhibition space is to be dedicated to display various plastic processing equipments and the latest technical plastic technology available in the thermoplastics industry.
QAPCO’s participation in the exhibition aims at boosting its friendly and business relations with its old customers and to meet any potential new customers, and also to be in close contact with the markets worldwide.
The public will be cordially welcome to visit QAPCO's stand (No. 90) at the exhibition to get insight into the company's high quality products of Low Density polyethylene (LDPE), ethylene and sulphur. The stand's design is expected to reflect the ancient Heritage, traditions and environment of Qatar.
At the stand some promotional brochures and printing materials will be distributed as well as technical data pamphlets showing different grades of LDPE produced by the company. A documentary film about Qatar will also be shown depicting its history, tourist attractions and the technological and industrial progress in most fields. The stand is to also contain some lighted boards, photographs about QAPCO's plants as well as specimen of polyethylene granules and other petrochemical products.

QAPCO was established in 1974 and is regarded as a unique and pioneering multinational venture with its shareholders INDUSTRIES QATAR Co. (80%) and TOTAL PETROCHEMICALS of France, formerly "ATOFINA" (20%). In September 2002, TOTAL PETROCHEMICALS purchased the 10% stake held by Italy’s ENICHEM to increase its holding in QAPCO. The company began full commercial operations in 1981. It produces Ethylene, Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) (sold under the brand name Lotrene) and Prilled Sulfur from Ethane feedstock, which is provided by QATAR PETROLEUM (QP) from its adjacent NGL plant. With the expansion of QAPCO plant in 1996, the Company became one of the largest producers of LDPE in the Middle East.
QAPCO products are sold to customers in the Far East, Indonesia, India, and some southern and western Asian nations. In a total of over 75 markets and recognizing the importance of its markets, QAPCO opened some Self-Operated Offices in Pakistan, China (Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing), Egypt and Syria. The company also opened three offices in India (Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai) in the beginning of 2003 and a self-operated office in the UAE (Dubai) in Dec 2004.
Maintaining its high standards, QAPCO’s management systems received ISO 9002 certification from BUREAU VERITAS QUALITY INTERNATIONAL (BVQI) in 1998 and QAPCO achieved certification of ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems (QMS) & ISO 14001:1996 Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Following an extensive audit, QAPCO was awarded in June/July 2005 the ISO 90001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications by SCG (Societe Generale de Surveilance SA), which is one of the world's leading audit professinals. The new certifications reflect QAPCO's commitment to establish and implement a Quality Management System as well as an Environment Management System that strictly adheres to all international standards. The company is also setting up an Occupational Health & Safety system (OHSAS) to meet the requirements of OHSAS 18001. In line with its position as a leading industry in Qatar, QAPCO is committed to providing high quality products, after-sale services and ensuring that state-of-the-art logistics are in place to get the products to market.
QAPCO produced 494,205 tons of Ethylene in 2004, against 525,541 tons in the previous year. QAPCO’s other major product is low density polyethylene (LDPE), of which it produced 372,825 tons in 2004 (384,486 tons: 2003). Sulfur 42,839 (45,833: 2003).
